ABSTRACT

The study of the vegetation evolution and its relationships to the climatic data was carried out in the Guadadalentin basin (pilot afea of MEDALUS III project) using multitemporal Landsat-5 TM imagery in the period 1990-1998. The images were geometrically coded, atmospherically and topographically corrected in addition to scenescene normalisation using invariant targets to assure intercomparsion betwen the obtained data. An improved vegetation cover mar obtained from the multitemporal classification of the images was used jointly with climatic data of 1990-98. The study shows that seasonal grasses, disperse matorral and Rosemarinus classes are highly sensitive for the precipitation while Stipa shows higher resistance to drought periodo On fue other hand, Pille forests show maximum drought resistance since they develop a deep rooting system.
